About the LPB

Our Archery Club was founded in 1990 on the Trelowarren Estate (then known as the Trelowarren Archery Club). In 1996, due to changes on the Estate, the Club had to find a new venue for a shooting range. With great generosity, members Keith and Jackie Harris bought the field on the outskirts of Garras and operated from a small shed, and they leased the field to the Club.

At this time the name was changed to Lizard Peninsula Bowmen. From this humble beginning, in 2002 to 2003 Club members erected the present pavilion, which was designed by Peter Smith, a senior member. In 2007 the Club was able to buy the field outright from Keith and Jackie, and its ownership now resides with four Trustees, who are current club members.

During a very cold spell in 2010, approximately 500 trees were obtained from the Forestry Commission and planted by members. They have flourished and add a very pleasurable aesthetic to the club grounds. We are affiliated with Archery GB, Grand Western Archery Society and the Devon & Cornwall Archery Society and shoot every bow type you can think of (excluding crossbow).

Since then, the club has grown considerably and boasts a healthy number of Archers with ages ranging from 10 to over 80. Each year we host a two day Tournament, and have received visitors from as far afield as Hong Kong, Germany, Belgium, a Dutch International Archer on holiday and even the UK’s No1 Longbow Archer.

We are open to the general public at least four times a year for our ‘Have a Go’ days, and for a small fee you receive expert tuition from one of our experienced coaches. If you wish to take the sport further, you may enrol in one of our six week ‘Archery & Club Induction’ Courses.

We also hold longer sessions at the club by prior mutual arrangement. Youth Club, Scouts, WI, Birthday Parties, Anyone. These sessions offer complete novices the opportunity to have an ‘Archery Taster’ lasting two hours and a lot of fun.

Archery is a very inclusive sport as it caters for all abilities. It is a good excuse to be outside in the fresh air which is good for mental health and your overall physical well being. It is not all about shooting sticks at targets. We are a sociable friendly Club and hold many gatherings throughout the year where we just chew the fat, which usually involves our other hobby, cakes.
